The Business committee is the link between Volvox & Alkymisten’s members and the business world.


Volvox & Alkymisten’s Business committee represents bachelor’s and master’s students in biology chemistry, and biotechnology at NTNU in Trondheim. Our task is to be the link between students and working life.

The committee aims to highlight the competence students acquire during their studies within the various fields we represent. As students studying scientific fields, we go in depth in order to understand the laws of nature and its composition, and our knowledge is a resource both research, and business can benefit greatly from. Our expertise is relevant within a broad spectrum of industries - from research on pharmaceuticals to work in farming industry, and much more!

The Business committe makes it easy for your company to connect with science students with strong academic backgrounds in chemistry and biology. The Business committee is a part of Volvox & Alkymisten, one of the largest student associations at NTNU, with over 800 members. Through us, you will be able to reach students from a broad spectrum of fields of study.

Our members can contribute with important competence within cellular and molecular biology, physiology, systems biology, biochemistry, biocatalysis, bio- and organic synthesis, analytical chemistry and instrument analysis, genetics, marine biology and aquaculture, ecology, evolution, bioinformatics, environmental toxicology, environmental chemistry, natural resource management, inorganic materials, structural chemistry, physical and quantum chemistry, and more!

What can we offer to you?

The Business committe wants to serve as a bridge between you and the students. We help you get in touch with the right people who have the relevant competence you need.

Throughout the year we organize several events in collaboration with companies, where you get the opportunity to promote yourselves. We organize a plan based on your wishes, and take care of promotion ahead of the visit.

We can also share news, job postings, etc. with our members through our social media channels. Our facebook page has over 800 followers and our instagram page has over 1280 followers. Details can be discussed if a collaboration is established.

Company presentations

We regularly organize presentations together with companies, organisations, or agencies. This usually involves the company coming to visit us to talk about their company, projects, and career opportunities. This is a golden opportunity for you to profile yourselves as a future workplace, and the students get a unique insight into what opportunities exist.

We tailor the program in dialogue with you as a company, and take care of the practical details regarding premises, registration, and organisation. We also actively promote the presentation via our website and social media, and posters at the university.

The price of a standard company presentation is 9000 NOK. In addition, it is common for the company to cover food for the audience (e.g., pizza).

The career day, VIVO

VIVO is will held at Gløshaugen every autumn. This is an excellent opportunity for companies to meet students of chemistry, biology, and biotechnology from all levels in the studies. The companies will be on stands, there will be lectures, and more events to create contact between companies and the students. At VIVO you can learn about you opportunities for master's theses, choice of study area, and/or future jobs. The stage will also be set for some master's students to promote themselves and their work to the companies that want to listen. Student assignments

There is a growing interest in external bachelor's and master's theses-projects, carried out in collaboration between the student, NTNU, and a company. If your company is looking for such a collaboration, the Business Committee will be happy to help you find the right candidate!

        For students

Get in touch with your future employers

We in the business committee want to give you as a student insight into the opportunities available after completing your studies. Our goal is to give you an insight into where your skills can be used in working life, and to put you in contact with people who can answer exactly what you want to know when it comes to your career.

Throughout the year we organize company presentations, company visits, the career day VIVO, "My Master", Alumni Evening, and various other events. Keep up to date with our events in the calendar.

Make your transition into working life a little easier by attending our events, and follow our Facebook-page and Instagram for news or job postings!

Company Presentations: Through a company presentation ("bedpres") a company will present itself to you as a student, and explain how the company works, as well as where your skills may be relevant. You also get the opportunity to ask questions directly to the company. The presentation normally ends with food being served.

The career day, VIVO: VIVO is held at Gløshaugen every autumn. This is the career day for those who study biology or chemistry. This career day is organized by, and for the students, so we're open to input regarding the desired plan for VIVO. Feel free to contact us with input and questions at VIVO@volvox.no

Other events: The Business committee also organizes company visits, "My Master", Almni evening, various lectures, and other events. If you have a good idea for something we can organize, please send us a message on Facebook or Instagram!

Practical information

Registration As a general rule, our events are free, but you have to register to receive food. Registration takes place here on our website. Check the calendar or the link in the facebook event.

Arrive on time: Arrive 10 minutes before the event starts. The doors close at the scheduled start time.

Do you want to join the Business committee? A volunteer position in the Business committee is both fun and social. You get the chance to challenge yourself, and learn how to behave profesionally when dealing with industry. It also looks great on your CV!

        For alumni

Do you want to present for us? We are always happy to welcome alumni who want to hold presentations for our members. This can be on behalf of a company as a corporate presentation, as part of a research project, or something completely different that our members may benefit from. We are open for suggestions!

Alumni-evening Every year, the Business Committee hosts an alumni evening where former V&A-students are invited to talk about their path into working life and some tips for the students. There will be time for questions during the presentations and mingling afterwards, as well as food. This is also a great oppurtunity to meet old friends and maybe grab a beer after the event. Alumni-evening is usually held the Thursday before Krabbe in February.
